Self-awareness isn’t just about knowing what makes you tick; it's also about how you perceive others and how others perceive you.


Self-awareness can be broken down into two primary components:


  1. Internal self-awareness: This refers to how clearly you see your own values, passions, aspirations, and emotional triggers. When you understand these, you’re better equipped to live in alignment with who you truly are.


  2. External self-awareness: This involves understanding how others view you. It’s important for personal growth because it can reveal blind spots in how we come across in relationships or social settings.


Why is this important? Because without self-awareness, it’s difficult to make conscious decisions that move you toward a balanced and fulfilling life.

This goes beyond being polite—it’s about being conscious of how you contribute to relationships, conversations, and even group dynamics.

  • How do I come across to others in social situations?

  • Do I actively listen, or am I more focused on what I’ll say next?

  • How do my actions affect those around me?


This dimension can be tricky because we often view ourselves differently from how others perceive us. Have you ever thought you were being helpful, only to realize someone else saw your actions as intrusive?


Taking time to reflect on feedback from others, even when it’s uncomfortable, can improve your social awareness.

3. Emotional Awareness: Recognizing and Managing Your Emotions

  • How do my actions contribute to the greater good?
